Hi, I'm Alex
The person behind Bluefly
I'm Alex, a full-stack developer and the person behind Bluefly Digital. I've spent more than 17 years building for the web and started this studio to do the work the way I think it should be done. Properly and without the overhead of agency layers that get in the way of the decision making process.
Since I started I've been fortunate enough to work with a huge range of clients across many sectors including healthcare, telecomms, hospitality, and charities. For them I have built performative, accessible marketing sites through to full-stack bespoke applications and integrations with other services. Frameworks and technologies come nd ago but my approach hasn't. Sound engineering, work that's built to last, and relationships that outlast any single project.
Day to day you can find me working across the "stack". Frontend, backend and all the nuts and bolts inbetween. Most often I work with WordPress, Laravel on the back with Vue, Nuxt, or Astro on the front end. I'm happiest solving complex problems where the details matter.
Being a studio of one is a deliberate choice. It means you always deal with me, the one actually doing the work. You'll get honest answers rather than dealing with layers of agency project managers where things get lost in translation. I take on projects I genuinely care about and know I can make a difference.

What I value
The principles behind the work

Craft over corners
I'd rather do it right than do it twice. Quality is cheaper in the long run, and I build like I'll still be maintaining it in at least five years.

Honest by default
I'm not here to sell you on things you don't need. You're the one using it day in, day out and you know what you need.

All these years in, I still get excited by good tools and better ideas. I keep learning so your software doesn't get left behind.
