Why Astro

Astro is the right choice when performance is the priority and the content doesn’t change every day. It builds pages ahead of time and sends them with little or no JavaScript, so they load almost instantly.

That makes it ideal for marketing sites, documentation, and the campaign sites agencies need for a launch, where content is set up front and rarely changes once it’s live. If a team of editors will be updating the site every week, WordPress is usually the better fit, or Astro with a headless CMS so editors still get a proper editing screen.

How I build it

I’ve been building with Astro since 2022. Both bluefly.digital and my own site are built with it, and I use the parts that suit each project:

  • Content collections, Markdown and MDX. Content is structured and checked when the site is built, so mistakes are caught before they reach visitors.
  • Headless CMSs when your team needs to edit. WordPress, Storyblok, Sanity or Statamic, with Astro building the front end from your content.
  • Interactive parts only where needed. Forms, search or a Vue component can be added to a page without slowing down the rest of the site.
  • Tailwind for styling. Consistent, maintainable styles that don’t grow out of control.

Hosting and support

Astro sites are hosted on Netlify: fast, inexpensive and simple to deploy, with every change previewed before it goes live. Once your site is live, I offer support and maintenance retainers to keep it up to date and add new pages as you need them.
